Inside Mitre 10’s S/4HANA Rollout: Embedding Capability, Confidence, and Culture at Scale
Description
At Mitre 10, New Zealand’s largest home improvement cooperative, we embarked on Programme ONE — a multi-year transformation to consolidate 84 independently operated stores onto a single SAP S/4HANA platform. While the technical challenge was immense, the true success factor turned out to be people — their readiness, confidence, and ability to embrace change.
We didn’t treat this as just a system migration. From the start, we aligned our enablement strategy to the business outcomes we wanted from SAP — better CX, faster decisions, and a more agile, connected business. We invested in digital literacy at scale, built leadership capability across the organisation, and embedded a culture of continuous, self-directed learning. The result? A foundation not just for SAP success, but for long-term business resilience.
Key Learnings
- Digital Confidence at Scale: How we uplifted basic digital literacy across 53% of our workforce to ensure readiness for SAP S/4HANA.
- Future-Ready Leadership: What it took to define and enable leadership at every level to drive transformation.
- DIY Learning Culture: How we designed an enablement approach focused on agility, collaboration, and self-led growth across roles and regions.
